Abstract
Automotive chassis is a main part in the vehicle system. Its main function is to carry the large amount of load and provide support for the vehicle structure. In this paper, we have discussed the opportunities for usage of the light weight material for heavy duty vehicle chassis systems. Now days the most important problem in automobile sector is the weight reduction overcoming the difficulties of increased components in vehicles. So they result in increasing fuel economy and reducing emission. The usage of light weight material in automobile applications can minimize the fuel emission 5-10%. Present industries are using the most common materials like mild steel for manufacturing for heavy duty vehicle chassis. In this work, the present material and structure are proposed to be replaced by alternative materials like steel, Aluminum alloy and magnesium alloys. Further these materials can be redesigned with bionic structures like honeycomb and sandwich structures to bring about good performances. These materials have properties like light weight, high strength and good crack resistance. Thus these materials combined with structure optimization can bring about a revolutionary phase in the automobile sectors
